Role of GTL Fuels in Reducing Environmental Impact

Fischer Tropsch Fuels remain a key product segment of GTL plants, providing low-sulfur diesel and naphtha. Fischer-Tropsch (FT) Fuels are synthetic liquid hydrocarbons produced through the Fischer-Tropsch process, a chemical conversion method that transforms carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H₂) into long-chain hydrocarbons. These fuels are typically derived from natural gas, coal, biomass, or municipal waste, and are used as alternatives to conventional petroleum fuels.


Process Overview


Synthesis Gas (Syngas) Production


Feedstocks like natural gas, coal, or biomass are converted into syngas (CO + H₂) through gasification or reforming.


Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis


Syngas passes over metallic catalysts (commonly iron or cobalt) at high temperature and pressure, producing long-chain hydrocarbons.


Product Upgrading


Hydrocarbon chains are refined into diesel, naphtha, jet fuel, LPG, and specialty chemicals.
